Landmine Explosion Injures Three Civilians in Al-Bayda Governorate

Three civilians sustained injuries when a landmine detonated under their vehicle in the Al-Zahir district of Yemen's Al-Bayda governorate on Friday. The incident occurred in the village of Al-Majrish as the individuals were traveling to the neighboring village of Ja'amah.

According to the Rights and Development Monitoring Center, the explosion completely destroyed the civilian car. The injured have been identified as Abdulsalam Ahmed Al-Qar, the car owner and driver, who suffered minor injuries; Ali Hussein Al-Qar, who sustained a fractured leg and shrapnel wounds; and Abdullah Abdulrab Hambaj, who sustained shrapnel and minor wounds.

The monitoring center noted that this is not an isolated incident in the region, stating that its team has previously documented similar occurrences at the same location, resulting in civilian casualties, including children. The center attributed the planting of landmines on civilian routes and near villages to the Houthi militia.

The organization emphasized that the area is distant from active combat zones, asserting that the continued presence of landmines poses a direct threat to the lives of residents and constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law.

The Rights and Development Monitoring Center called for an immediate cessation of all types of landmine planting in residential areas and public roads. It also demanded the disclosure of maps detailing planted mines in the Al-Zahir district and Al-Bayda governorate, alongside efforts to clear affected areas to ensure civilian safety.

Furthermore, the center urged United Nations bodies and international human rights organizations to condemn the planting of landmines and to exert pressure for the accountability of those responsible, considering these violations subject to investigation and prosecution under international law.
