Marib Hospitals on High Alert After Deadly Houthi Attack on Military Camps

Marib province hospitals in northeastern Yemen declared a state of widespread emergency on Thursday, following the arrival of dozens of injured soldiers. The casualties resulted from attacks carried out by the Houthi militia on military sites in Marib and Hadhramaut governorates, a significant escalation that has resulted in numerous deaths and injuries.

Field sources reported that emergency departments in several Marib hospitals received a large influx of wounded individuals. The death toll has surpassed 45 soldiers, with dozens more injured. Concerns are mounting that the casualty count may rise due to the critical condition of some of the wounded. Medical teams continued to work under immense pressure to accommodate the continuous flow of casualties, while the bodies of several deceased soldiers were transferred to the province's hospital morgues.

The attacks occurred after the Houthi militia targeted military positions in the Al-Thiniyah and Al-Ruwaik areas, east of Marib, where the First Emergency Division and other military units are stationed. Concurrently, a similar assault targeted sites belonging to the 23rd Mechanized Brigade in the Al-Obeir district of Hadhramaut governorate.

Military sources indicated that the attacks were executed using ballistic missiles and drones. The assaults specifically targeted gatherings of soldiers within military camps, as well as locations housing weapons and ammunition depots, leading to a substantial number of casualties.

The media center for the Yemeni Emergency Forces stated that the offensive followed a series of operations conducted by the forces to secure areas, protect international routes, pursue smuggling networks, and apprehend individuals involved in assassinations and organized crimes.

This attack comes at a time of escalating tension across several local fronts, particularly in Marib, Hodeidah, and Dhale. There are indications of a resurgence in military operations, fueling concerns of a potential slide into a new wave of escalation after a period of relative calm.
