Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, and Pakistan have underscored the critical importance of regional cooperation to ensure the security of strategic waterways, particularly the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandab, to guarantee freedom of maritime navigation and maintain the stability of global supply chains and energy markets. The joint statement was made during the fifth meeting of the four nations' foreign ministers, held in Amman, Jordan. The meeting was attended by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Pakistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdel Atty, and Turkey's Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan. The ministers discussed regional developments and emphasized the necessity of continued joint efforts and intensified coordination to unify stances on current regional issues. During the meeting, the ministers praised Saudi Arabia's initiative in establishing the multinational Maritime Defense Alliance. This alliance aims to enhance maritime security, protect international sea lanes, and counter threats targeting international navigation and trade. The discussions also addressed efforts to de-escalate tensions and manage existing security challenges. The participants stressed the importance of continued support for diplomatic solutions, strengthening mediation efforts, and respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, all of which contribute to the region's security and stability. These affirmations come amid escalating geopolitical tensions in the region, notably concerning the Strait of Hormuz, where heightened anticipation and caution prevail, influenced by pronouncements from certain parties affecting maritime traffic.
