Aden Authorities Seize 3,000 Pregabalin Pills from Drug Traffickers

Security forces in Aden, Yemen's interim capital, apprehended two individuals on Wednesday involved in drug trafficking, following an operation by the Drug Control Administration of Aden Police in cooperation with specialized National Security forces in the Dar Saad district.

The Director of the Drug Control Administration, Mayas Al-Jaadani, stated that the operation was conducted after meticulous security investigations and surveillance that lasted for a period. The operation resulted in the seizure of a quantity of Pregabalin narcotic pills from the two detained individuals.

Al-Jaadani elaborated that the confiscated items included approximately 200 strips of the pills, totaling 3,000 pills of 300mg concentration. He indicated that the quantity was in the possession of the accused, identified as (M.A.S.B) and (M.R.M.K).

He added that security agencies have completed the legal procedures related to the case, including seizure reports and preliminary investigations, in preparation for referring the case file to the Security and Investigation Prosecutor's Office for further proceedings and subsequent referral to the competent court.

This operation occurs at a time when several Yemeni cities are witnessing a worrying surge in the prevalence of narcotics in recent years. This trend is accompanied by security and societal warnings regarding the expansion of smuggling and trafficking networks, which are exploiting the repercussions of the war that erupted following the Houthi militia's coup in September 2014, alongside a decline in security oversight and the deterioration of economic and social conditions.

Security officials and experts have noted that the ongoing conflict and multiple smuggling routes through land and sea ports have contributed to an increase in the flow of narcotic substances into the local market. This has prompted security agencies in several governorates to intensify their campaigns against trafficking and distribution networks, which have become a growing security and health challenge.
