Aden Residents Demand Urgent Action on Sewage Overflow Threatening Public Health

Residents in Aden's Al-Mansoura district are urgently calling for intervention to address a severe sewage overflow problem that is inundating streets and posing a direct threat to public health. The situation has escalated with stagnant wastewater creating breeding grounds for disease and hindering daily life.

In a neighborhood near Al-Haramin Private School in the Technical City area of Al-Mansoura district, residents reported that sewage water has submerged parts of the area, forming stagnant pools. This has impeded movement and raised significant concerns about the spread of diseases, particularly among children and the elderly.

Residents stated that the problem has persisted without a radical solution, warning that the continuous flow of sewage could lead to the flooding of larger sections of the neighborhood if the situation remains unaddressed. They implored the local authorities and the Water and Sanitation Corporation to expedite repairs to the damaged network.

Healthcare workers expressed alarm, noting that the accumulation of sewage in residential areas provides a fertile environment for mosquitoes and disease-carrying insects. They warned that this increases the likelihood of outbreaks of waterborne diseases and epidemics, especially with rising temperatures and the deterioration of sanitation and cleaning services.

Health sources further cautioned that delays in resolving these issues could lead to an increase in cases of acute diarrhea, cholera, dengue fever, and skin diseases. They urged authorities to implement immediate interventions, including pumping out stagnant water, repairing sewage lines, and intensifying spraying campaigns and health awareness initiatives to mitigate risks.

Residents of the affected neighborhood have appealed to the Governor of Aden, the Director-General of Al-Mansoura district, and relevant authorities for a swift response to their demands. They emphasized that continued neglect of this issue could escalate into a widespread health and environmental crisis, particularly as the city grapples with mounting pressure on its basic infrastructure services.
