Taiz Teachers Union Warns of Academic Year Crisis Over Unpaid Dues

The Yemeni Teachers Syndicate in Taiz Governorate has issued a stark warning regarding the potential disruption of the upcoming academic year, citing the ongoing denial of financial entitlements to thousands of educators.

In a memorandum addressed to the Director of the Education Office in Taiz, Abdul Waseh Shaddad, the syndicate highlighted that over 10,000 teachers and educational professionals have not benefited from Cabinet Resolution No. (14) of 2026. This resolution mandates the disbursement of annual increments and a 20% increase in the cost-of-living allowance.

The syndicate detailed that 5,109 teachers were transferred to social security without their consent, despite continuing their teaching duties. This action has resulted in them being deprived of increments for the years 2021 and 2025. Furthermore, 1,337 teachers have been denied supplementary increments related to the implementation of the 2014 and 2020 annual increments. This group will also be negatively impacted by the cost-of-living allowance increase, while teachers in other governorates have reportedly received their dues retroactively.

The union also pointed out that 5,623 educational staff appointed in 2011 have yet to receive their increments for 2012 and 2013, in addition to their professional nature allowance, despite repeated requests from the syndicate and the Education Office.

The syndicate urged for these issues to be escalated to the state leadership and the government to find urgent solutions that ensure the payment of all outstanding financial dues and achieve justice for the teachers. It cautioned that the continued disregard for these demands could compel a significant number of educational cadres to abandon their posts, adversely affecting the progress of the educational process in the governorate.
