Sana'a: Pro-Houthi Activist Abducted Amid Journalist's Continued Detention

Sana'a, Yemen – An activist aligned with the Houthi movement, Faris Abubar'a, was forcibly taken from his home in the Houthi-controlled capital of Sana'a early Wednesday by unidentified armed individuals and transported to an unknown location. Local sources indicate the abduction may be linked to Abubar'a's ongoing coverage of a case involving Sheikh Hamad bin Rashid Fadgham Al-Hazmi and a woman identified as "Mira Saddam Hussein."

The operation, reportedly carried out by masked gunmen, highlights concerns over freedom of expression and press in the region. Abubar'a's reporting on the Al-Hazmi case is believed to be the primary motive behind his apprehension.

In a related development, journalist Ahmed Al-Maksh remains in detention following his abduction on May 15th. Sources confirm Al-Maksh was seized by armed elements affiliated with the Houthi militia from his residence. This action has reportedly instilled fear within his family.

Al-Maksh was taken to an undisclosed location, and his family has not been informed of his whereabouts or permitted any contact. His continued detention without legal proceedings is being characterized as arbitrary and a violation of media freedom and freedom of speech.
