Hundreds of veteran educational supervisors and administrators in Ibb province have been ordered by the Houthi-controlled Education Office to return to teaching roles, with threats of dismissal or punitive measures for non-compliance.

Sources within the education sector revealed that the directive targets seasoned professionals who have dedicated decades to education, having held various administrative and supervisory positions, including school principalships, department headships, and roles in directorates and provincial inspection units. Many of those affected are nearing retirement age.

The Houthi measures are reportedly discriminatory, compelling supervisors, administrators, and teachers not affiliated with the militia to resume teaching duties. Conversely, individuals and families loyal to the Houthi movement, particularly those from the Hashemite lineage, have been exempted from this requirement.

This development exacerbates the already dire living and humanitarian conditions faced by educational sector employees. Years of salary arrears and economic decline have intensified discontent among educators in Ibb province.
