The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) stated on Thursday, June 11, 2026, that Yemen is experiencing one of the most severe displacement crises globally. This assessment was shared by the UNHCR's Yemen office via a post on the X platform, preceding the release of the agency's annual report on global displacement. The UNHCR noted that while global displacement decreased for the first time in a decade, Yemen continues to grapple with 5.2 million internally displaced persons, in addition to hosting over 63,000 refugees. A recent report by the Norwegian Refugee Council ranked Yemen fourth among the world's ten most overlooked displacement crises in 2025. Yemen was placed behind Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Colombia in the council's assessment. |
