A demining team from the "مسام" project has successfully dismantled landmines discovered near civilian homes in the Midi district, northwest Yemen, in a move aimed at protecting residents from the dangers posed by mines and war remnants scattered throughout the area.

Team leader 38, engineer Saif Al-Mashmari, stated that the team received a report from a citizen indicating the presence of anti-personnel and anti-tank mines south of the Bani Fayed area in Midi district, Hajjah Governorate. These mines were located near residential clusters and grazing areas, posing a direct threat to the lives and property of civilians.

Al-Mashmari explained that the team mobilized to the site immediately after receiving the report. Within the first few hours of initial inspection and surveying, they dismantled two anti-personnel mines. He confirmed that field survey operations are ongoing in the area, which has been classified as high-risk.

He added that the field teams issued warnings to residents, urging them to stay away from the site until demining operations are completed and all mines and war remnants are cleared. This is intended to ensure the complete security of the area and allow residents to resume their daily activities safely.

Citizen Ahmed Hattan, who filed the report, expressed his gratitude to the "مسام" team for their swift response and arrival. He noted that the mines were located approximately 80 meters from residents' homes.

Hattan emphasized that residents of the area have suffered for years from the dangers of mines spread around them, which have caused the death and injury of several civilians, the loss of livestock, and damage to agricultural equipment, in addition to restricting residents' movement and hindering their livelihoods.
