Hundreds of mourners gathered in the city of Marib, northeast Yemen, on Tuesday to bid farewell to 10 members of a single family who perished in a fire that destroyed their home approximately two weeks prior. Government officials, including the Governor of Raymah, Mohammed Al-Houri, participated in the funeral procession. They were joined by directors of executive offices and local officials from both Marib and Raymah governorates. The deceased were laid to rest in the Martyrs' Cemetery amidst a large public gathering. Governor Al-Houri appealed to businessmen and humanitarian organizations for urgent support for the surviving family members, noting that seven children have been left homeless following the incident. The ten individuals, belonging to the Al-Samdi family originally from Raymah Governorate, died on April 8th after a fire, described by witnesses as "immense," engulfed their Marib residence. Local sources indicate that the fire is believed to have originated from the storage of large quantities of fuel inside the house, which led to the rapid spread of flames and made containment efforts extremely difficult. The incident has been characterized by local sources as one of the most tragic family disasters to occur in the governorate in recent years. |
