Houthis Announce Resumption of Maritime Attacks in Support of Iran, Per AP

Citing two high-ranking, anonymous officials, the Associated Press reported Saturday that Iran-backed Houthi militants in Yemen have decided to resume missile and drone attacks targeting maritime navigation routes and Israel in explicit support of Tehran.

The officials confirmed that the group would restart these attacks, with one stating that the militants' initial strike could commence as early as "tonight." This decision follows a previous cessation of Houthi aggression in vital shipping lanes, which had been paused following an agreement with the Trump administration that also halted reciprocal U.S. strikes.

The Houthi attacks against Israel were also suspended following the October ceasefire that paused major combat operations in Gaza. However, the group's political body, the Supreme Political Council, recently issued a strong condemnation of what it termed "American-Israeli aggression" against Iran, alleging the intent was to dismantle deterrence equations preparatory to wider targeting.

The Houthi council expressed "full and steadfast solidarity" with the Islamic Republic of Iran, asserting its legitimate right to defend its sovereignty and security. The statement explicitly held the United States and the "Zionist entity" fully responsible for the repercussions of this dangerous escalation.

The group warned that continued American-Israeli aggression would not secure the safety of Israel but would instead only broaden the scope of confrontation and intensify the path of resistance. These developments emerge hours after the United States and Israel conducted extensive strikes against targets across Iran, including in Tehran, Qom, Isfahan, Kermanshah, and Karaj.
