Brutal Attacks in Houthi-Controlled Yemen: Child Tortured, Young Man Killed Over Theft Allegations

Two separate, horrific incidents involving extreme violence against civilians were reported in Yemen's Hodeidah and Al-Bayda governorates, both areas under Houthi militia control. The abuses, allegedly stemming from accusations of theft, resulted in the death of one young man and severe psychological and physical trauma to a 13-year-old child.

In the Al-Maghlaf district of Hodeidah Governorate, specifically in the Bani Al-Ghadra - Bani Hashish area, six young men subjected a 13-year-old boy to sadistic torture. The alleged offense was taking a single mango from a farm. A leaked video of the incident reportedly showed the perpetrators hanging the child upside down from a tree by his feet while inflicting various forms of abuse, including biting his fingers during interrogation and threatening him by burning straw beneath his body.

Concurrently, the Al-Arsh district in Al-Bayda Governorate witnessed the brutal killing of Nayef Al-Mansouri, a young man from the village of "Shihat." Local sources indicated that individuals affiliated with the "Habban" village allegedly apprehended Al-Mansouri in their farms, claiming he was stealing qat. These elements reportedly restrained and violently tortured the young man, including electrocution, until he succumbed to his injuries.

Sources further detailed that one of the assailants transported the victim's body back to his village, allegedly threatening the family by stating, "We brought him to you like this this time; next time we will bring him killed," suggesting the victim had already died from the excessive abuse prior to arrival.

These dual atrocities have ignited widespread public and human rights outrage. Activists condemned the transformation of farms and rural areas into "private prisons" where influential figures allegedly commit heinous acts of murder and torture outside the purview of the law. Victims' families and civil society organizations are demanding the immediate apprehension and swift trial of all involved parties.

These groups hold the security apparatus of the Houthi militia fully accountable for the prevailing security vacuum, which they argue licenses the spread of "jungle law" and endangers the lives and dignity of civilians.
