Sons Brutally Attack Elderly Father with Acid in Yemen's Amran

Two young men in the Khamr district of Amran Governorate, northern Yemen, violently assaulted their elderly father on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, culminating in spraying him with corrosive acid.

Local sources identified the assailants as Nabil Nasser Al-Qasri and his brother Ahmed, who subjected their father, Nasser Qaliq Al-Qasri, to a brutal attack that has caused widespread shock and outrage in the region. The brothers reportedly inflicted severe burns on their father's head by applying the corrosive substance.

The sources further indicated that this act of violence is not isolated, noting that the two sons had previously attempted to poison their father. Following the recent attack, the father filed a complaint with the police department in the Khamr district.

However, the police station, reportedly headed by Houthi militia leader Mansour Al-Hamzi, refused to take any action against the two brothers, citing their alleged recruitment and service within the militia ranks. This refusal has amplified public condemnation of the incident.

The crime has ignited significant public anger, leading to widespread calls from civil society and human rights advocates for an immediate investigation, prosecution of those involved, and an end to the culture of impunity. These demands emphasize the necessity of safeguarding remaining societal and familial values.

Reports suggest a recent increase in the frequency of intra-familial violence, including patricide, committed by individuals affiliated with the Iran-backed Houthi militia across areas under their control. Human rights reports have documented hundreds of civilian casualties, injured or killed, at the hands of their Houthi relatives. These crimes are often attributed to the perpetrators' involvement in sectarian indoctrination courses provided by the militia, compounded in some cases by illicit substance abuse.
