India has significantly escalated maritime enforcement in the Indian Ocean, disrupting the ship-to-ship transfer networks used by Iran to obscure the origin of its oil shipments and circumvent international sanctions.

According to a report released by the Middle East Forum, Indian authorities have detained three tankers linked to Iran's so-called "shadow fleet": the *Stellar Ruby*, *Asphalt Star*, and *Javzaviya*. This action marks a notable shift in New Delhi's posture regarding sanctioned oil trade.

The operation coincided with the boarding of another tanker, the *Veronica 3*, by US forces, indicating coordinated efforts aimed at curtailing Iranian oil revenues—a primary source for funding the activities of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The report further indicated that India has deployed dozens of naval assets and surveillance aircraft to track suspicious maritime transfers, effectively closing off concealment routes within its operational area west of Mumbai's coast.

This strategic pivot suggests a transformation in India's role, moving from being a major energy importer to a more assertive maritime security actor, aligning with a broader rapprochement involving Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States.

These recent maneuvers occurred in parallel with political coordination between Washington and Tel Aviv, following a White House meeting between the US President and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, where discussions centered on tightening restrictions on Iranian oil exports, particularly those destined for China.

The report concluded that this maritime tightening weakens Tehran's capacity to bypass sanctions and is reshaping the balance of maritime security across the Indian and Pacific Oceans, even as diplomatic efforts concerning the Iranian file continue.
