Yemeni Forces Seize 450,000 Captagon Tablets in Bab el-Mandeb Naval Operation

Security forces in Yemen's Lahij Governorate announced the seizure of a vessel laden with a substantial quantity of narcotics during a naval operation near the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait, marking one of the largest confiscations in the region recently.

The media center for the joint security campaign in Al-Subayhah released a statement indicating that its naval units intercepted the boat on Monday morning within the waters under the jurisdiction of the Al-Mudarabah and Ras Al-Arah districts, west of Lahij. Four individuals aboard the vessel were apprehended during the operation.

The statement detailed that the forces discovered approximately 450,000 tablets of Captagon, which were organized into 450 individual bags, each containing one thousand tablets, in addition to five large sacks containing supplementary quantities of illicit substances.

Field officials confirmed that the successful operation followed an extended period of surveillance and monitoring, conducted as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug smuggling across the coastlines overlooking Bab el-Mandeb, a critical maritime passage connecting the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden.

The announcement concluded by noting that the seized contraband has been secured and the suspects have been referred to the competent authorities for further investigation, though no further details regarding the shipment's intended destination or the orchestrating entity were provided.
